By Alicia Waters | January 4, 2016

Louis Braille was born January 4, 1809 in Coupvray, France. He became blind by accident when he was 3 years old. At age 12, he began to develop a system of reading and writing for use by the blind and visually impaired. This system is known worldwide as “braille.”

RI Talking Books Plus (TBP) is part of a national network of libraries that provide braille and talking books to eligible individuals. For more information, visit the TBP website.
