Treaty for the Blind
By Alicia Waters | June 24, 2013
The WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) Treaty for the Blind is aimed at ensuring that millions of blind and vision-impaired people can get books in accessible formats like audio, Braille and large print. There are differences between advocates for the blind and the Motion Picture Association of America. The agreement would allow books to be distributed internationally. Advocates for the blind want to extend the kind of rights afforded by U.S. law which allows books to be converted to accessible formats without seeking permission from copyright holders.
