The January 2014 Bestsellers List has been posted.
The bestseller report compiled monthly by NLS combines information taken from the bestseller lists of the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, and the Washington Post.
Bestsellers are included in the report when they appear on one of the above bestseller lists for a month or more.
Once a title appears in the report with an NLS number, it will not appear on future reports.
The acronyms used for newspapers and book clubs in the NLS bestseller report are:

NFB Scholarships

Peter Seeger Remembered

How can I keep from singing: Pete Seeger by David King Dunaway. Reading time: 15 hours, 45 minutes. The author of this biography about “the most picketed, boycotted performer in American history” was given access to his subject’s family, friends, letters, and journals. A “red diaper baby,” Seeger was the son of a musicologist who had undergone a dramatic socialist conversion. Young Pete turned to folk music after dropping out of Harvard in 1938; he was soon fast friends with both Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie. DB 25866

Tax documents in alternative formats

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) provides online tax products and services for taxpayers with disabilities. Individuals may visit the IRS Accessibility page (www.irs.gov/uac/IRS.gov-Accessibility) to download forms, publications, and other products and to access tax-related videos in English and American Sign Language. The IRS recommends checking the website often as it is continuously adding more products to assist persons with disabilities.

World Braille Day

Saturday, January 4th commemorates World Braille Day, the birth of Louis Braille. Louis was blinded in an accident as a toddler. As a teenager, Louis developed the Braille system. 205 years after Louis’ birth, RI Talking Books Plus, a regional network library of the National Library Services for the Blind and Physically Handicapped today is providing Braille reading materials to eligible Rhode Islanders through a contract with the Perkins Library in Massachusetts.

Talking Book Topics Nov Dec issue

The National Library Services for the Blind and Physically Handicapped announced that the delivery of the large print issue of Talking Book Topics (TBT) November-December 2013 was delayed by the Government Printing Office. The magazine is expected to complete delivery the week of December 16, 2013. This delay does not affect the audio or online versions of TBT.
