MassChallenge 2013

“Perkins is calling all inventors and entrepreneurs for the MassChallenge 2013. Perkins Assistive Technology Prize provides $25,000 in grants to entrepreneurs around the world whose products or services focus on improving opportunities and quality of life for people with disabilities.” Early bird application deadline is March 6, 2013.

Presidents Day Book Mailing

Talking Books Plus is open for business on Monday, February 18th. However, no books will be mailed out on that day. So if you ordered books on Friday, Feb. 15, they won’t get mailed until Tuesday. Expect mail delivery delay by one day because of the holiday.

Twentieth Century Presidents booklist

On Monday, February 18th, Presidents Day is celebrated. Recently, Talking Books Plus (TBP) added the Twentieth Century Presidents booklist to the TBP Reading List online. The list also linked on the TBP main web page. May TBP members be spirited to read about our presidents on this national holiday. The list was compiled by our fellow network talking book library in Missouri, the Wolfner Talking Book and Braille Library.

Black History Month books

In February, Black History Month is celebrated to recognize the accomplishments of black Americans. Talking Books Plus/OLIS, the Rhode Island network library of the National Library Services for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, has many books on the topics of African Americans, Civil Rights, and Slavery. Booker T. Washington is the topic of several books as well. The Talking Books Plus online catalog lists 1,000 titles that can be found by searching the keyword, African American. To find those in digital format, limit the search under Media to Digital Book.

January 2013 Bestsellers

The Bestsellers Lists are compiled monthly by NLS. These lists combine information taken from the bestseller lists of the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, and the Washington Post.
Bestsellers are included in the report when they appear on one of the above bestseller lists for a month or more.
Once a title appears in the report with an NLS number, it will not appear on future reports.

BOOK CLUB

IN-SIGHT offers a monthly Book Club to eligible individuals. Book Club members meet to select the books that they will read as a group. As an institutional member of Talking Books Plus (TBP), IN-SIGHT can download books from the Rhode Island TBP website for the IN-SIGHT Book Club members who do not have access to a computer. TBP members who have a BARD account are able to download the books themselves. BARD service is only available to TBP members. To become a member of TBP or to apply for BARD, visit the TBP webpage and click on Application Forms.
