New England and Rhode Island Library Association Joint Conference

By Alicia Waters | November 20, 2018

Marilyn Stevenson of New Hampshire, Vincent Livoti of Vermont and Alicia Waters of Rhode Island presented “A Tale of Three Cities: Spotlight on Special Services” at the NELA (New England Library Association) and RILA (Rhode Island Library Association) Annual Conference in October. The presentation focused on several National Library Service initiatives, including Duplication on Demand, increasing access to digital services and rural outreach programs. It was followed by a lively question-and-answer period from a full audience. Each regional librarian highlighted work in their own respective states and connected those efforts to the broader goals of the NLS. This group project helped increase regional awareness to the depth and breadth of the services we provide across New England and around the country.

The American Printing House for the Blind, Inc. is no longer able to produce the Reader’s Digest and Newsweek magazines subscriptions.  “Although the webpage hasn’t been updated to reflect it, neither Reader’s Digest nor Newsweek will be available from APH in any format, including download, effective 10/31/18. They are currently working on sending out letters in Print and in Braille to all of their subscribers regarding this, and they are hopeful that this may change in the future.” They recommend checking back periodically at the American Printing House for the Blind website.
