By Alicia Waters | May 31, 2013
Get fast delivery without the hassles. Did you know you can download the newsletter as well as digital books and magazines to the NLS cartridge? Members who use BARD experience premium Talking Books Plus service. That means there is no waiting for the delivery of materials through the US postal service and all the materials are in audio format for listening pleasure.
To download the Talking Times newsletter via Internet Explorer, right click the audio mp3 version from the Talking Times newsletter webpage. Select the issue you want to download. Then select Save Target As. Select the directory on your local drive where you want to save the file. Then drag the saved file from the local drive into the removeable drive and the newsletter will automatically load onto the cartridge ready for playing in the TBP/NLS digital player. Return Digital Magazine Cartridges
By Alicia Waters | May 30, 2013
The cartridge loan period for weekly magazines is one week after you receive them. The cartridge loan period for monthly, bimonthly, and quarterly publications is one month after you receive them. When returning the cartridge in the red container, simply flip the mailing card on the container and place it with your outgoing mail.
When the magazine cartridge has more than one magazine on it, use the bookshelf feature on the digital player to find each magazine on the cartridge. Complete audio instructions for using the bookshelf feature are included on all cartridges that contain more than one magazine issue. Any magazine cartridge that has a monthly, bimonthly, or quarterly publication on it—even if it also has a weekly publication on it—will have a loan period of one month after you receive it. Please return the magazine cartridges within the loan period in order to continue receiving future issues.

Deleting BARD files with a Mac
By Alicia Waters | May 29, 2013
Problem: When downloading, the computer says the digital cartridge is full. The cartridge when inserted into the player doesn’t play any books.
Cause: One common problem on a Mac when deleting files from a cartridge or flash drive, the files are not deleted. They are moved to trash.
Solution: To delete the files completely, attach the drive to the computer and empty the trash. This empties the trash on the computer as well.

Talking Book Topics Order Form
By Alicia Waters | May 20, 2013
Talking Book Topics (TBT) has moved to the digital-cartridge format. Order forms for the magazine will arrive separately. Talking Books Plus (TBP) members who receive the magazine first should hold it until the order form arrives.
Some members are returning handwritten lists of their book orders to the producer with the magazine cartridge. Please send book orders to TBP in Rhode Island and send only the cartridge to the producer. Please be reminded that audio copies of TBT can be obtained from the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) if a TBP member has accidentally returned his or her TBT to the producer. For TBP subscribers who have misplaced their order forms, TBP may download a text version of the TBT order form for the TBP member. TBP members and the staff at TBP may also use the order forms available in the large-print edition of TBT. The forms should be returned to TBP.
Subscribers will continue to receive the magazine on cassette for two months after they begin receiving it on cartridge. Note that patrons may hold the cartridge version of a TBT issue for one month before the cartridge must be returned.
